July 2012 Fire Extinguisher Training Schedule - June 21st, 2012

The Hands-On Fire Extinguisher Training Schedule: July 2012 (PDF – 1.6 MB), sponsored by Facilities Management, is readily available for download/print.

UMaine employees are required to receive this training once every three years if the following criteria apply:

  • They are the designated safety or evacuation coordinator for your unit/department;
  • They are a designated emergency first responder;
  • They use open flames and flammable materials or flammable chemicals in their jobs;
  • They work at remote sites without ready access to a fire department; and or
  • They are a welder.

Additionally, all employees that meet the above criteria are also required to take the online Fire Extinguisher Annual Refresher Training.

To register for the hands-on training, please follow the instructions included in Hands-On Fire Extinguisher Training Schedule: July 2012 (PDF – 1.6 MB).

Tobacco-Free Campus Supervisor's Training - December 22nd, 2011

January 1st, 2012 marks the first day of the full implementation of the Tobacco-Free Campus Policy.

2010 UMaine Clery Fire Safety Report Available - September 30th, 2011

The Higher Education Opportunity Act requires that each campus report on fires at student housing facilities as well as publish a fire safety report which is to be available to the public by October 1 of every year. The report is available on the SEM Policy, Guides, and Reports web page.

Hazardous Chemical Reduction - June 29th, 2011

Do you use hazardous chemicals? How have you been able to reduce the amount of hazardous chemicals you use?

We are looking for success stories and new ideas you may have for reducing the use of toxic substances and hazardous waste. Share your stories or ideas with us.

New Worker’s Compensation / Employee Injury and Illness Reporting Form

There is a new on-line form to report employee injuries and illnesses for supervisors that do not have a Cannon Cochran Management Services, Inc (CCMSI) login/ID and password.

Supervisors that do not enter their employee's injuries and illnesses directly on the CCMSI web page will now report the injury/illness by filling out the Workers' Compensation Employee Injury/Illness on-line Incident Report form.

After the supervisor completes the on-line form, it is submitted to UMaine Benefits department for processing.

Worker’s Compensation Medical Care Facility
The University has selected Cutler Health Center as its primary facility for the initial visit, diagnosis, and treatment of workplace injuries/illnesses. More information may be found on the SEM Accident Reporting web page, or by calling HR Benefits at 581-2360.
