ATTORNEY

Brett D. Baber

Student Legal Services is an arm of Student Government which provides legal assistance to the undergraduate student population of the University of Maine.  SLS offers free consultations, and greatly discounted rates for legal assistance.  Currently, Student Government has contracted Brett D. Baber to provide services.

 
Brett D. Baber is a native of Iowa City, Iowa. A 1982 graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Brett obtained his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law in 1985 where he was a research editor of the Maine Law Review. Brett has authored several Maine Bar Journal articles on various aspects of civil litigation and he is a governor of the Maine State Bar Association. He actively practices in the fields of criminal law, commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, civil rights, personal injury law, real estate and boundary disputes, construction claims, securities litigation and municipal tort claims under the Maine Tort Claims Act. Brett is currently admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the District of Maine and all Maine State courts.
