Naval Architech/Engineer Print E-mail
Naval Architech/Engineer The Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine seeks an innovative and experienced offshore structures engineer to develop and design floating offshore structures in wind energy technology. This position is also expected to develop industrial client partnerships in the offshore wind industry and develop proposals for federal, state and industry-funded R&D programs. The research facility is an 87,000 ft² laboratory with a world leading team of over 150 faculty, staff and students conducts research with a variety of public and private entities developing the next generation of low-cost high-performance composite materials.

Qualifications: Ph.D. or MS in Naval Architecture or related Engineering is strongly preferred; a BS is required with at least 3 years relevant professional experience. Professional Engineering license is preferred. Substantial experience in project management is preferred. Substantial experience in the following areas is preferred; floating offshore structure design (sizing, stability calculations, structural design, fatigue, relevant design codes); scale model testing in wave basin including scaling laws, test design, and instrumentation; full-scale instrumentation systems for offshore platforms; floating platform deployment methods; mooring and anchor design; finite element modeling and engineering design. Experience in the design of offshore wind structures is desirable. Proficiency in naval architecture software (HARP, etc.) is required. Knowledge of ABS, US Coast Guard, OSHA, EPA and other federal regulations regarding offshore floating structures is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment is required with demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and constant deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Experience in student research preferred.

Engineer II or Engineer III Print E-mail
Engineer II or Engineer III The Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine seeks an innovative and experienced engineer with experience in composite manufacturing processes, structural engineering, and testing. The research facility is an 87,000 ft² laboratory with a world leading team of over 150 faculty, staff and students conducts research with a variety of public and private entities developing the next generation of low-cost high-performance composite materials.

Qualifications: Engineer II – B.S. in Mechanical or Civil engineering is required. Master’s degree in a related Engineering field is preferred or a desire to pursue a Master’s degree in Engineering. Engineer III a Ph.D. or M.S. in related Engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. These positions require at least three years of relevant experience. EIT certificate required or ability to obtain within 1 year required. Advanced coursework or equivalent experience in some of the following areas is preferred: advanced composites, finite element modeling, engineering design, advanced mechanics of materials. Demonstrated skill and experience in SolidWorks or equivalent 3-D CAD experience is required. Experience in carrying out static and dynamic laboratory load tests of composites preferred. Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and constant deadlines.

US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance is required for some positions.
