Welcome to the AEWC website. I invite you to explore our site and learn more dagher_hx.jpgabout us and our mission of education, research, and economic development.

Our 48,000 ft2 ISO 17025 accredited, world-leading facility has ten integrated laboratories under one roof. The Center houses laboratories for composite materials manufacturing science, resin infusion, polymer/interface science, environmental-durability testing, mechanical testing, nondestructive evaluation (NDE), advanced microscopy, and large-scale multidegree-of-freedom static and dynamic structural testing. The Center also houses two pilot plants: a Composites Extrusion Pilot Plant and a Strand Composites Pilot Plant.

Each year we have over 100 outstanding student researchers at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Since the Center opened in June of 2000, nearly 100 graduate students have done their research at AEWC and over 500 undergrads have been employed as research assistants and technicians.

Our faculty and staff include highly qualified, experienced and recognized professionals in numerous fields related to research, development and commercialization of wood-nonwood composites and structures.

Our capacities for industrial cooperation  have led to nearly 300 product development and testing projects over the past five years. AEWC's industrial partners include small, start-up companies as well as large, globally-recognized corporations.

AEWC's research initiatives include cutting-edge technology development for public infrastructure, consumer products, residential and light commercial construction, force protection and homeland security.

Whether you are a composites researcher, a student, a company developing new composites products or a person interested in learning more about composites R & D at the University of Maine, I hope that you will find our site informative and that our website leads you to visit us and learn more about the exciting people and projects at AEWC.

Sincerely,

Habib J. Dagher
