Laboratory Tours
Over 1,000 people tour the AEWC laboratories each year. These groups include:
- School classes
- Business and professional associations
- UMaine alumni and friends
- Public officials
- Visiting scholars
Tours are normally 1 hour in length; visitors are asked to wear closed toe footwear and will be provided hardhats and safety glasses; maximum group size is 20 (usually school tours are divided into groups).
Visitors are guided through AEWC labs with opportunities to talk with researchers and to view ongoing projects. Tours introduce visitors to (1) the role of R & D in Maine’s economy; (2) basic concepts of materials science; and (3) engineered wood and composites manufacturing processes.
