Dr. Davids is presently the John C. Bridge Associate Professor of Civil/Structural Engineering at the University of Maine. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington (1998), and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine. His primary research interests are in the areas wood mechanics and engineered wood composites, bridge engineering, inflatable structures, and the analysis of concrete and asphalt pavements. He has directed large research projects on topics ranging from the analysis and testing of timber-concrete composite bridges to the development of design and analysis methods for inflatable fabric arch-supported structures. Dr. Davids’ research projects often encompass both experimental work and the development of problem-specific numerical analysis techniques. He has expertise in computational structural mechanics and numerical methods, and is active in the development of software for the mechanical analysis of concrete and asphalt pavements. Dr. Davids is the primary developer of EverFE, a software package for the linear and nonlinear 3D finite element analysis of jointed plain concrete pavements that couples a highly interactive graphical user interface and object-oriented C++ finite element code. Professor Davids teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in structural design, analysis, and numerical methods. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Maine, and gained four years of professional experience as a structural bridge engineer with Sverdrup Corporation (now Jacobs Engineering) in their Seattle office
