The Micromechanics and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Laboratory

The Micromechanics and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Laboratory offers state-of-the-art testing for specimens, including detection of internal damage, fracture location, and monitoring of damage accumulation rates. Additional test measurements performed in this laboratory include modulus of elasticity (E), specific gravity and vibration damping ratio.

X-ray Microtomography - The internal three dimensional structure of materials can be non-destructively imaged at resolutions down to 2.4 µm. Computerized image analysis permits identification of void structure and phase separations.

Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyzer

Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyzer - Rheometric Scientific DMTA-V, computer-controlled, frequencies of 0.001 Hz to 200 Hz, temperature range of 150 C to 600 C, displacement amplitudes from 0.5 to 128 microns with a maximum force of 15 m.
