The Neal Bridge in Pittsfield, Maine was replaced with AEWC's 'bridge in a backpack' technology in the autumn of 2008. Lightweight carbon fiber arches were positioned to act as a stay-in-place form for concrete poured into the arches. These arches serve as structural reinforcement for the concrete and protect it from corrosion. This leads to decreased maintenance costs, increased bridge lifespan, and reduction of environmental impact.
