Laboratory Tours

Over 1,000 people tour our laboratories each year. These groups include:

School classes
Business and professional associations
UMaine alumni and friends
Public officials
Visiting scholars

Tours are normally 2 hours in length; visitors are asked to wear closed toe footwear and will be provided hardhats and safety glasses; maximum group size is 20 (usually school tours are divided into groups). General safety handout

Visitors are guided through our labs with opportunities to talk with researchers and to view ongoing projects. Tours introduce visitors to (1) the role of R & D in Maine’s economy; (2) basic concepts of materials science; and (3) engineered wood and composites manufacturing processes.
