NEW: Summer Fieldschool in Prehistoric Archaeology
Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 29, 2003

Learn about Maine’s ancient history and earn credits by excavating on a prehistoric site on the Penobscot River that dates back to 6,000 years ago!

The prehistoric section of ANT 497 for the summer 2003 semester is a hands-on archaeology fieldschool where students will learn the basics of surveying, testing, excavation, laboratory analysis, and interpretation of an archaeological site. The site that we will focus on for the summer 2003 season contains deeply stratified occupations that go from the Late Archaic Period (ca. 4,000 B.C.) to the Contact Period in the 17th century. The instructor, Dr. Adrian L. Burke, has over 10 years of experience in running fieldschools and excavations in the Northeast. There will also be at least one graduate assistant to help students. Enrollment is limited to 10 students and priority will be given to University of Maine - Orono students. For more information see details below.
