Non-Degree Information
Graduate non-degree students are those whose interest in advanced study is not related to a degree program or whose previous background or work does not immediately qualify them for admission to the Graduate School. A Bachelor’s degree is required in order to establish graduate non-degree status.
Work taken as a non-degree student will be applied to a degree only if it fits into an approved program of study and is completed within the appropriate time limit. Up to twelve hours of degree credit (inclusive of transfer credit) may be granted with approval of the student’s advisory committee for work done at The University of Maine prior to admission if students were
post-baccalaureate at the time of registration.
When registering for 500 or 600-level courses, this application must be submitted to the Graduate School together with a transcript of the highest earned degree. The Graduate School will request UMS transcripts. Approval of non-degree status is valid for one calendar year beginning with the first semester of registration.
The University of Maine Graduate School has a non-refundable non-degree application fee of twenty-five dollars ($35.00). Applicants can pay the fee by check or credit card.
Checks should be made payable to The University of Maine and be in U.S. dollars drawn from a United States bank.
Applicants paying the application fee with a credit card
(MasterCard or Visa) can do so by calling our office at (207)-581-3291.
