In April of 2008 the U.S. Green Building Council awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Rating to the Center.
The building’s architects, Oak Point Associates, also received a citation of excellence in green building from the American School Board Journal and the Center was recognized as one of the top new educational facilities in the country. Read more about the building and its green features in the Journal’s "Learning By Design" publication.
The Center was named the Foster Student Innovation Center following a generous donation from UMaine alums Bion '68 and Dorain Foster, '68H.
