I-Team Projects

Students who would like to gain valuable experience and work on innovative projects can participate in an innovation team (I-Team). I-Team students lend their expertise to faculty, staff and other students who are developing new products or services. Students can get involved through internships, class projects, or simply by networking with students at the FSIC.

Grey Maple, www.greymaple.com/~maine
Doug Marchio, doug.marchio@umit.maine.edu
Marchio has developed an eStore platform (as seen in UMaine's Computer Connection store) that eliminates the problems of reselling online. Inventory and prices are updated directly and automatically from the wholesaler's website, cutting data maintenance costs and improving online sales. Other resellers currently using Marchio's program include Duke University, the University of Rochester, University of Arkansas, Biola University, and Old Dominion University. Students are working with Grey Maple to develop its marketing strategy and promotional materials.

Gudmuse, www.gudmuse.com
Dr. Stuart Marrs
Classical music goes high-tech with Gudmuse, a company dedicated to delivering advanced music instruction and cutting-edge technology to the classical community. Marrs, chair of the UMaine Music Division, has been a soloist, clinician, orchestral timpanist-percussionist, conductor, and teacher for over 30 years. A Yamaha performing artist, he currently tours across the US, Europe, and Latin America. The I-Team helped to develop the business strategy and DVD products.

Sports Done Right, www.sportsdonerightmaine.org
Karen Brown (Director) - 207.581.2443
Launched through a UMaine initiative in 2003, Sports Done Right is centered around seven core principles that describe what healthy sports programs look like. The program seeks to elliminate sports-related controversies by more aggressively linking sports to school and community values, while supporting quality education for coaches. Our I-Team helped develop a set of products for the program for schools and other youth sports programs.

Traditions Trail
Class of 2010 Council

The Class of 2010 Council came to the Foster Student Innovation Center with a proposed class project called the Traditions Trail. The trail is a brick walkway that would run from the Memorial Union to Buchanan Alumni House, featuring four break-out sections highlighting various UMaine traditions. Each section of walkway would be purchased by different classes and would feature the class name on a large stone. The I-Team worked closely with members of the council to produce a promotional video on the Traditions Trail, including interviews and animations, which was presented to the Campus Planning Committee.

UMaine Youth Music
School of Performing Arts

Following a successful pilot program, the UMaine Youth Music program awaits its second season. UMYM is a six week community-based music program designed for young musicians in grades 6-8, which will run in the spring of 2008. Working with members of the School of Performing Arts, the I-Team helped to design the program, survey former UMYM families, and produce promotional materials for its second year.
