Band Assignments:
To best utilize student time and to accommodate seating restrictions the large band will be divided into smaller groups. The exact division will depend on the actual # of band members. A yearly policy will be issued by the third Pep Band rehearsal. Schedules and assignemnts will be handed out then. Members are responsible for the games they are assigned.
Excusal process:
A substitute player must take your place at the game. If the above is not followed it will be an unexcused absence. Advance notice on a missed rehearsal is required or else it is an unexcused absence.
Playoffs:
Due to NCAA rules requiring the bands to be 25-30 members including the director, not everyone will get to go to those games. The band will be filled based on the following criteria: 1. Fitting a balanced instrumentation. 2. Attendance at regular season scheduled games. 3. Attendance at games that occur during breaks.. 4. General availibilty during Spring Break to be at Playoff games. Pep Band Members that have played in Marching Band will be given first consideration, though no one is guaranteed a spot.
Behavior:
Students are expected to conduct themselves as representatives of the University of Maine when in public and to always be good sports. Rude, sexist, or racial remarks as well as profanity will not be tolerated , failure to comply with this will result in dismissal from the group. Refer to the student handbook also for guidelines and University expectations. NCAA rules forbid playing while the clock is running, please be aware. Please don’t “noodle” while in the stands.
Miscellaneous:
You are responsible for finding subs in the event of an absence. If they don’t show it affects your grade not the subs. If you have any ideas that you would like to try for games let me know, the best ideas come from the band members. Always call Mr. White if you have any questions or concerns. There is a chance of injury at Hockey Games if a puck leaves the ice. Watch for the loose pucks.
Disability Statement:
"If you have a disability for which you may be requesting an accommodation, please contact either your instructor or Ann Smith, Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities (Onward Building, 581-2319), as early as possible in the term."
