Sol Goldman graduated from Brandeis University in 1971 as a history major. After a few years of wondering what one can do with a degree in history, he gave up working on that problem, and went to law school. He graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1980. He returned to Maine after law school and worked as a staff attorney at Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Bangor from 1980-1989. Then he went into education, directing the paralegal program at Beal College for a number of years, and then teaching in the paralegal program at Husson College. At the University of Maine, he has taught classes on law. In addition, he has taught constitutional law in the Penobscot Valley Senior College for several years, where there are no tests, no grades, and no worries about what to do with one's life.
