The Department of Political Science offers unique opportunities for learning outside of the traditional classroom. Students may participate in a number of programs, including annual representation at the Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) held at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point. A number of exciting internships are available, including the State Legislative Internship Program in Augusta, and the Congressional Internship Program in Washington, D.C. Students may also serve as Margaret Chase Smith Scholars or as Maine Public Policy Scholars (both funded research opportunities for undergraduate students).
In addition, students often participate in independent study or field experience. Faculty monitor and direct their progress.
