Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Political Science at the University of Maine.

We offer students a high-quality program, with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 required for admission into the major. Once admitted, students may select from forty courses that range from standard lecture courses, to writing intensive courses, to advanced seminars that incorporate database packages and internet research. In addition to coursework, students have opportunities to work closely with faculty on independent research projects; on conferences and journals; and, to serve internships in state and federal agencies, including a well-established congressional internship program that places students in the Washington, D.C. offices of the Maine delegation.

Each year our department distributes scholarships and awards, and it selects an Outstanding Student in Political Science and in International Affairs. Many of our students attend graduate school and law school after finishing their undergraduate program.

Every member of the faculty has the Ph.D. degree, and the department has a reputation as a center of learning and discovery. We are committed to the principle of life-long learning, and so we strive to lead by example.

Thank you for your interest in our program.
