The conference list is compiled from a variety of sources and not intended to be a comprehensive list of all ESL conferences currently available. The conferences have been screened to compliment the needs of Maine's educators as defined by Project Opportunity. All listings are provided for informational purposes only and their inclusion on our site should not be seen as an affiliation, promotion or endorsement of any kind. Conference Announcements

The Northern New England TESOL (NNETESOL) Fall 2009 conference,
CULTURAL LENSES -Current issues for TESOLs
is being held on November 15, 2008 at Southern New Hampshire University!

The keynote speaker will be Patrick Moran, a professor in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT. He has a special interest in the cultural dimension of language teaching and learning, a topic he explores in Teaching Culture: Perspectives in Practice (Heinle & Heinle). He began his teaching career as a Peace Corps TEFL volunteer in Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa. Since then, he has been involved in a variety of activities related to second language education and language teacher education in the U.S. and abroad, including work in PeaceCorps training and materials development, language and culture orientation in France, and refugee resettlement education in Thailand and Indonesia. He is also an illustrator of language learning and teaching materials, including Lexicarry: Pictures for Learning Languages, published by the language teaching publishing house Pro Lingua Associates, which he confounded.

2009 FLAME / ESL Conference
Foreign Language Association of Maine / English as a Second Language
on March 12-13, 2009
at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, Maine.

Pre-Conference Schedule:
Thursday, March 12, 2009
3:30 - 5:30pm - Registration, Reception, Exhibits
5:30 - 6:45pm - Dinner
6:45 - 9:00pm - Keynote Address

Conference Schedule:
Friday, March 13, 2009
7:30am – 3:00pm - Registration, refreshments, three (3) workshop sessions, time to visit the exhibits, buffet lunch and distribution of CEUs. Friday’s workshop sessions address current topics and issues in world language education as well as English language learning education. Exhibitors will display textbooks and other materials.

Exhibit Area:
The exhibit area will be open on March 12, 2009 from 3:30 - 5:30pm and on March 13, 2009 from 8:00am - 3:00pm.

CEU's:
Continuing Education Units are available. Registered participants who attend both days of the FLAME/ESL Conference can earn 0.6 CEUs Detail information, fees, and forms will be available in the registration area.
