Sigma Phi Epsilon has been a big part of the University of Maine since the 1940's. After leaving campus in the 1990's, they returned to UMaine in the Spring of 2000 as four men: Oscar Sparrow, Alex Arroyo, Joshua Higgins, and Theodore Pietz. Those became the first four brothers of the new Maine SEC Balanced Man Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
They worked hard, recruited balanced men, and began to change the way Fraternities operated at the University of Maine. Their goal was to diminish the "Frat Boy" Stereotype, and set new standards for Greek Life. Their mission was successful, and a little under two years later, the four men had grown to over 50, and Maine SEC earned back it's Charter and once again became Maine Alpha.
Now, the men of Maine Alpha lead the Greek System in many aspects, including academics, intramural sports, and manpower. They have high goals to attain, and the determination to do it. Maine Alpha has already made its mark on the University of Maine, and it is reaching to make its mark on the world.
Our Mission: "To uphold an enduring culture that provides a positive framework for the personal growth of a college man by promoting a lifestyle demonstrating civic, scholastic, and moral advancement. Coupled with the bonds created in a responsible and trusting brotherhood, this fraternity will serve as an aid and support for the transition of a young man into a future leader, ever guided by our core principles of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love."
