4-H Earth Connections

4-H Earth Connections (EC) is a scheme of environmental education upon which Tanglewood's school programs are built. EC was developed to not just teach about nature, but to teach that we too are a part of nature.

EC builds upon the values of 4-H, creating a framework for learning about both the environment and ourselves. The Four Dimensions of 4-H (Head, Heart, Hands & Health) help to structure our programs and the Core Concepts, or "Laws of Ecology," are often a part of activities.

  • Everything is connected
  • Everything goes somewhere
  • I am part of the environment
  • The earth has limits
  • Everything has a cost (There's no such thing as a free lunch)
  • Diversity tends towards stablity
  • Everything is always changing

More information about Earth Connections, including a free leaders guide and further explanation of its philosophy can be found at the 4-H Earth Connections web site.
