March 16, 2005 to April 30, 2005

The goals of this project are to produce detailed records of glacier recession during the last deglaciation and Holocene. Mapping and sampling of glacial deposits around Lago Argentina and the Upsala Glacier will be undertaken to develop a more refined chronology of ice recession using 14C analysis. These records will allow interpretations of the timing, structure and magnitude of climate change in South America during the last delaciation and Holocene (c. 17,000 to the present), and be used to test hypotheses related to the cause and global distribution of ice ages and rapid climate change.
