How does a glacier travel down a mountain?

Materials:

Nearly frozen glacier goo
Room temperature glacier goo
Mountain

Explore:

1. Place one of the goos on the mountain. Observe how it flows down the mountain. Remove the goo.
2. Place the other goo in the same place. Observe the flow.

A. Compare the way the two “glaciers” flowed down the mountain.

Explore some more:

1. Place the glaciers on various spots on the mountain. Observe the flow of the glaciers.
B. On which parts of the mountain do the glaciers flow fastest?

C. Did you find any places where the glacier did not flow? Explain.

D. When the glacier flows, what part of it seems to flow fastest?
