Longitude:120.00 degrees West
Temperature:–15°C( 3°F)
Wind speed:10 knots
Wind Chill:–24°C( –11°F)
Wind direction:West

Notes on daily life:

The winds died down today and the sky is clear. A perfect day for us to leave for McMurdo. Unfortunately, the weather in McMurdo is fairly poor so we will not be seeing a plane today.

We had all expected to be up early doing last minute preparations for the flight, but instead most people stayed in bed catching up on rest.

Perhaps we will see the plane tomorrow? In the meantime we can enjoy the day in West Antarctica.

Notes on daily life:

Beautiful day today – windy with clear skies. We spent the entire day finalizing our gear for the flight to McMurdo.

Steve Niles, Lynn Peters, and Brian Welch groomed the runway to remove snowdrifts that have accumulated since the last time it was used on 16 November.

Nice quiet evening and off to sleep.

Notes on daily life:

We are still driving. With luck we will get to Byrd by midday on New Year's Eve. The weather is still fine. Steve Arcone is still collecting shallow radar data. Brian Welch is still collecting deep radar data. Blue Spikes is still doing his GPS survey. All of this is happening while we are on the go. ITASE science never stops.

Looking forward to New Year's Eve at Byrd.
